How can early career researchers fulfill clinical duties while also ensuring their academic progress continues? In a recent webinar, Claire Chenault, Program Manager at the Jefferson Clinical Research Institute, shared how her office facilitates a unique funding program to assist with this balance. The Jefferson Emerging Medical Research Support Junior Faculty Award provides 20% protected time for 2 years for researchers that already have a funded project.

Claire notes, “The reason we’re focusing on salary support for this is that early career researchers can find themselves between a rock and a hard place. The rock being that time to get pilot data, and the hard place being the need to have pilot data to get that protected time.” She shared her best practices for designing and managing this program using InfoReady.
