Overview - Applicant selects one response per row from columns of options. - Works well for groups of questions that have the same list of potential responses. - Instead of creating many multiple choice questions, create one matrix!
Default Admin View
Settings Panel Sections
General
A. Field reference - Unique identifier in the InfoReady database that does not show to applicants or reviewers.
B. Field label - Question label
C. Instructions (optional) - Any additional notes to help applicants answer the question
D. Required - If checked, each row will require an applicant response (same as clicking asterisk * on main question screen).
E. Hide from reviewers (optional) - Check to hide the question and applicants' responses from reviewers.
F. Hide from applicants (optional) - Check to hide the question from applicants.
Columns
- Type directly in the fields if desired, or copy and paste a list (G)
G. Eraser - Clear all choices
H. Edit - Copy and paste a list from another source (e.g., Word, Excel) to populate choices
I. Add - Add a choice to the list
J. Rearrange - Drag and drop to re-order choices
K. Visibility - Control visibility of a single choice (compare with overall logic in next section)
L. Delete - Remove the choice from the list
Rows
- Fill out the rows, using the same tools described above for columns.
Logic
- Choose when the question is shown and/or required.

Layout
L. Display field on a new line
M. Field label location - Choose if and where the label should show.
N. Instructions location - Choose either under the field or under the field label
O. Alternate rows (optional but recommended) - Displays rows as shaded grey every other row

- From the Preview tab, here is how the question built above would look to applicants.
- Switch back to the Designer tab to make any edits to logic or layout.
Administrator Views of Submitted Applications
Data Grid
- In the Data Grid, each row in the matrix is treated as a separate question.
- In the columns dropdown of the Grid, each row is named as Field Label/Row Label (e.g., Study Components/Animals, Study Components/Chemicals, etc.).
- Add applicable columns to the Data Grid, then sort or filter to view specific combinations or responses.
Excel Report
- In Excel reports, each row in the matrix is treated as a separate question.
- Each Excel column is named as Field Label/Row Label (e.g., Study Components/Animals, Study Components/Chemicals, etc.).
