Routing steps can be skipped in batches, or within an individual application, as shown below.

Why skip routing steps?

- The default routing step behavior is for submissions to move forward sequentially from one routing step to the next (if multiple steps exist).

- Administrators may decide that an application does not need to be assigned reviewers in a specific routing step, but needs assigned reviewers for later routing steps.

- In order for the reviewers to gain access to the reviews and be notified via the Review Requests Digest, the administrator will need to skip the routing step(s) that are not being used for the application.

Scenario

There are 2 routing steps and not all applications need to be reviewed in Step 1. The admin takes the following actions for a specific application:

  • Assigns reviewers to step 2
  • Does not assign reviewers to step 1
  • Does not check the box for "Skip routing step" in step 1

Result: Routing step 2 would not be activated and the reviewers would not receive notifications about or have access to review this application.

Solution: Checking the box to "Skip routing step" for this application in step 1 will activate routing step 2 and open the review for the reviewers. The admin may want to force send the Review Requests Digest if reviews have already been assigned to the second step to notify the reviewers.

Administrator view of individual application. Skip routing step for this application box is checked, and whole sentence is outlined in red.
