In the Settings panel, the Validation area allows you to set character limits on applicant responses. It is available in two question fields:
The default is set at -1, meaning the maximum amount of characters is allowed (20,000).
To set a limit, simply type in the number of characters.
Character Limits vs. Word Limits
If you'd like to limit the response to number of words, we recommend the following character limits:
Desired Word Limit | Recommended Character Limit |
250 | 1500 |
500 | 3000 |
1,000 | 6000 |
4,000 | 20000 (*maximum supported by the platform) |
Applicant View
- Applicants will see a character counter within the field as they type.
- If the limit is reached, the text will be truncated at the last character allowed.
