Use the outline below to navigate building the Requirements page (i.e., application form). Click any heading for more detailed information.

The order below guides administrators from high-level settings to individual question configurations, with prompts and/or tips for each area.

However, you may find skipping around or navigating back and forth between different articles fit your learning style. How you create your form is up to you, and we are here to help!

Navigation Basics

  • This 13-minute video gives an overview of how to navigate within the Requirements page.
  • There are multiple ways to complete the same action, so try different ones to see what you prefer!

Accessibility Note: Using the default Designer view (i.e., not expanding the left side toolbar) is the most accessible form building experience.

Form Level Settings

  • Do you want to allow applicants to preview their submission before finalizing?
  • Would displaying a Table of Contents (TOC) to applicants help them navigate the form more easily?
  • Could page titles and/or numbers add clarity?

Adding Sections & Pages

  • Would multiple pages help break up the submission process?
  • Could sections further divide pages visually?

List of Form Fields (Question Types)

  • What is the simplest way to ask a specific question?
  • Should you compare similar question types to find the best fit?
  • How will responses work best for analyzing data later?

Adding & Editing Questions

  • What is my preferred way to add questions (There are multiple!)?
  • Can I make my creation process more efficient by configuring all settings and then duplicating individual questions?
Important Tip: Keep your question field labels short because these will determine how the questions are shown later in the Data Grid and Excel reports. Then add any longer clarifying details as instructions (see below).

Adding Instructions

  • Where do I need to prompt applicants with additional guiding information?
  • Does it fit best to add these notes directly on the question, or introduce a separate section?
Important Tip: If you are copying and pasting text from another source, remove formatting before entering in InfoReady. (The keyboard shortcut to paste without formatting is Ctrl+Shift+v).

If you need to include more detailed formatting (e.g., bullet points, coloring), insert a Paragraph field directly above the question.

Adding Conditional Logic

  • Have I created all questions that control dependency for other questions?
  • Are they in an order that naturally flows from an applicant's perspective?
  • Are the questions the simplest type that will guide applicants through the form?
Important Tip: Because you can configure logic at the page, section, or question level, we recommend creating the entire form first and then setting up any logic.
The ability to use conditional logic is a Form Designer Pro feature. For more information, contact your account manager or view this article: Form Designer Template: Core vs. Pro Comparison Chart

InfoReady Tools (optional)

  • What additional application form features may I need to utilize?
  • Within each, have I carefully configured all settings?

Preview

Preview the Application Form

  • Are all questions required that need to be?
  • Does all of my conditional logic work as I expected it to?
  • Are there any areas that could benefit from more instruction or clearer labels?
  • If I used special additional requirements, are they displaying as I expected?
Important Tip: Especially if you build in conditional logic, test multiple times with a variety of different response combinations to make sure the correct questions are shown/required.
